Time Travel Romance Book Review
The Forest Beyond (Spirit Traveler Book 1)
This is Book 1 in the Spirit Traveler series for The Forest Beyond. This is a great book it really kept my attention, it’s about a girl finding her independence. You will have a bit of everything with this read, love, romance, jealousy, and adventure. The characters are well written and easy to follow, I will be watching for book 2 in the series to see how the author develops the characters.
Charlotte is a time traveler and living between Osage Nation and the present. The sorry has a classic romance with some twists and turns. As she goes back and forth between Charlotte’s life and Indigo’s life, it gets harder for her to decide which life she wants to live. Which life will she choose? Which one will be safer?
I look forward to reading more by
About Christine DeYoung
Former beauty queen, teacher, and marathon runner. Currently, a mom, a wife, and aspiring writer. Born in Lubbock, TX, grew up in Arkansas, graduated high school in Kentucky. Currently live in Fort Worth, TX. I have three kids, two step-kids and two dogs. I love reading, writing, and taking long naps with my dogs curled up beside me. My favorite places to vacation are in the woods or mountains. Most people like sun and beaches, but I’d rather be in a screened-in porch with the rain slowly dripping off the trees while I’m curled up in a comfy swing with a good book and my wonderful husband close by.
I love reading young adult sci-fi authors like Cassandra Clare or time-travel authors like Diana Gabaldon or Katherine Lowry Logan. I’ve read all the series of: Harry Potter, Sookie Stackhouse, Twilight, Divergent, Outlander, The Mortal Instruments, Clockwork, Game of Thrones, The Atlantis Gene, and a ton of Native American stories just to name of few.
I’m intrigued by the concept of past lives and all things life-after death. I believe we live forever as spirit energy and that our true home is in the spiritual world. Our lives here on Earth are “just a bad camping trip” (as quoted by Sylvia Browne) and there are those that can make contact with the other side of life. I’m also a big advocate of Environmental Awareness. I must have either been a Native American or a Hippie in a past life, either way, I am a true back to nature kind-of gal.

Two stories blended into one. On the one side, Charlotte is up against a jealous ex-boyfriend who is determined to disrupt her life and break up her relationship with handsome new guy, Brock. On the other side, she has an amazing ability to transfer her Spirit into the body of a Native American Osage girl living in the past named Indigo. When she learns Indigo is to marry a warrior named Stomping Bull, Charlotte is torn between her life in the present and wanting to stay in the past.
In 1988, Charlotte is ready to turn 16 and finally have some independence. She also longs to have a steady boyfriend, and when handsome new guy, Brock, comes to town, she thinks he is just the one she has been looking for. But, a jealous ex has other plans and he keeps disrupting her dates making it hard for her to find any happiness. One day when she is walking with her dog in the forest, she has an out-of-body experience. Her spirit travels back in time into the time when the Osage Nation roamed Arkansas. When she meets her apparent soon-to-be husband, Stomping Bull, she quickly falls in love. As she goes back and forth between Charlotte’s life and Indigo’s life, it gets harder for her to decide which life she wants to live. Which life will she choose? Which one will be safer?
