The Story of The Baby Box Lady Monica Kelsey – Author Interview
What was your main drive to write this book? My main drive was to put to paper the truth that God works everything, even painful beginnings, together for His glory. I am not a victim, I am victorious. I want readers to take the journey with me as I find my purpose through pain.
What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?
I hope that they will know much more about the crisis of infant abandonment, appreciate the truth that every life has immense value and maybe have a better understanding, empathy for women in crisis who see surrendering their infant as the best option for their baby. I hope they will also see that when God gives you a vision and a passion, He will see you through. You have to choose to never ever give up.
Did you do much research when planning this book?
A ton of research on the history of infant abandonment in the US and the current laws.
Did you have any main people who helped you in the process of this book or influenced you to write it?
My board chairmen, many of the supporters of Safe Haven Baby Boxes who listened to me tell my story and knew that it should be put in writing. And of course my parents, especially my dad, who passed away weeks after I finished writing.
How long did this book take you to write from initial thought to hitting publish?
From the initial thought I would say over 4 years, but once I committed to writing it, it took about 6 months. The Covid pandemic greatly assisted in that timeframe.
Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new topics?
I am hoping to write the stories of the brave mothers who safely surrendered their newborn, the adoptive parents and the hope that each life spared brings to the world.
