“Jan Per has written a fantastic book giving us the rawness of emotional paralysis first hand. Emotional paralysis then creeps up and grabs even the best minds to the point where the body can’t muster the vital energy to keep going. What is interesting is that even when people are suffering from the aftermath of trauma, they are a lot more healthy and resilient than they realize. Shining a light on the individual’s inherent strengths, and helping them realize that they are not “damaged” or “broken,” makes a big difference in how they view their difficult times.

“Living with our eyes closed waiting for reality to disappear is no way to live.” Jan Per

I offer you 27 broad-based literary works. The prose – and storylines are original and based on true events. Belated Redemption opens the collection, a poignant story about the wife of a man convicted of a white-collar crime he did not commit.  Some of the themes — love, friendship, abuse, grief, loss, betrayal, and motherhood will be recurrent in several stories, as they are in our lives.

About author Jan Per:

I’ve written this book to give the reader real-life stories of healing and inspiration from my own professional and personal life. The many stories I share are based on women who at some point in their lives encountered emotional paralysis due to circumstances beyond their control. Names and places were changed to protect the identity of these individuals. These stories will take you into a place where you will experience their lives and issues, giving you the gift that only literature can make possible; take you beyond the limits of your own life and make a way into someone else’s.

About Pause:

The stories shared in the book are all based on true events that I have encountered throughout my professional work and life.  These experiences have resonated deeply with me, and have made my respect for human resiliency grow.  It is for that reason that I have chosen to share them in this book.

For every story in this book, it is important to consider the meaning underlying each unique account I have put before you.  The general theme revolves around emotional paralysis, which had confronted each woman, in original and unexpected ways, and they could no longer cope or function.  They entered Pause.

May the wisdom in these 27 women’s stories help the reader find inspiration, hope, and strength.
