The Joy of Argument, How to Take Charge of Your Life

Albert Navarra has practiced law since 1999, as well as philosophy, education, and writing. In law, persuasion is an important skill to have and hone. It’s common for people to struggle to get their points across, and it is just as common for misunderstandings to happen. Arguments and discussions happen all the time! Albert’s book offers readers a simple read: skills you can start practicing today to improve your communication abilities.

The front cover of The Joy of Argument: 91 Ways to Get More of What You Want, and Less of What You Don’t by Albert NavarraTell us about your book.

It’s really about improving communication skills. How to communicate more effectively so that people REALLY understand what you’re trying to say. And the other way around too. How to pay attention to what others are saying so that you get what they’re trying to say. Being fluent in a language is great, but it doesn’t guarantee that the communication will be received the way you intend. For that, it helps to develop various skills, which I try to highlight in the book.

If you had to compare this book to any other book out there, which book would it be?

It’s like a cookbook full of different recipes. One day you might want to work on your ability to focus on facts, rather than the person who is reciting the facts. I mean, you might hate the person, but facts are important. So the ability to put aside your feelings for or against another person and focus on the facts can be helpful. Next day, you might want to work on keeping your cool during a heated discussion. Whatever it is, I hope to have a little recipe in the book for that skill.

Hundreds of thousands of books come out every year. Why should someone buy THIS book?

It is VERY easy to read. And you can IMMEDIATELY practice the skills in the book.

Who is your target audience?

Anyone who feels a little unsatisfied with arguing. Maybe you feel nobody agrees with you. Or nobody pays attention to you. Maybe you feel you argue too much. Or other people are frustrating you because they never change their attitude about something. Anyone who experiences communication distress may benefit.
