Behind the pages, what was your journey of writing Chaos: I In the Shadows | II Road to Recovery? What challenges and triumphs did you face along the way?

When I think about the journey of my life that led me to writing my two-part book Chaos: I In the Shadows and Chaos: Road to Recovery… It was one night after therapy while sitting alone in my living room. I heard The Most High voice, where he told me it was time for me to share my story. While writing, the eight years of therapy all started to make sense; why it is so important to A photograph of Author KCunderstand who you are as a person. Writing the book allowed me to face my inner demons head on. It taught me the real reason why we need to forgive ourselves. Through all the pain and anger that I had built up from my childhood, it caused me to be the problem in my relationships. You see, I had a lot of anger issues, and I started to enjoy the chaos around me. All because I did not know any better based on the childhood I had. The best part about therapy was finally gaining the understanding about who I was and why my family was the way they were. Realizing that they raised me the best way they knew how, based on the way their parents raised them. Therapy gave me the realization that my parents were not bad people. They just did the best they could with the information they had from their parents. This helped me see the problems and mistakes I made while raising my children. This gave me the strength to want better for my wife and children. It willed me into getting help and do my best in killing the generational curse that had haunted my family for years. Therapy gave me the drive and motivation for me to start my recovery process in healing. This is why Chaos: The Road to Recovery was such a crucial part of the book. It basically showed how I had fallen on my face and ended up being locked up facing years in prison. Only to have the Most High to have mercy, while showing me grace and giving me another chance at life.

For a reader to initiate their own journey of transformation, what lessons and insights from your books may prove useful to them?

Thinking about my experience of writing and publishing books has been an interesting ride. The writing part, like I mentioned earlier, was very therapeutic. Reliving my life from childhood to adulthood was challenging. I was shocked at how much I remembered from my childhood, but it also helped me understand my adult life. It gave me a perspective on what Chaos truly was and how without true The front cover of Chaos: I In the Shadows | II Road to Recovery understanding, I would have just thought my family’s way of life was normal behavior. From the publishing aspect it has been quite difficult being a no-named author compared to an established one. For one thing, finding the right company who I could trust in assisting me in publishing was hard. Especially when you are doing self-published books instead of dealing with major corporations or “the machine,” as I call them. You are taking a chance on yourself, spending your own money, and praying for a prosperous outcome. Knowing that it is a possibility that nobody will ever read your books but being comfortable with the outcome. I personally have a want, or maybe it is a need, to help people. Truth be told it is what drives me. Being a person who caused so much damage at some point in my life affected me deeply. Now as an author I want to reach as many people as I can to help them see that anything is possible. Yes, hard work is needed when dealing with the struggles of life, but hard work pays off. My triumphs have been overcoming myself, facing the demons that once controlled my life, and once again finding my faith in the Most High. Learning to be comfortable while dealing with my mental health challenges and accepting the daily struggles that come with them. The triumphs I have experienced from publishing right now being that I am a self-published author who has sat down with therapist and psychologist, making my own way in the mental health field, and making great connections while helping people.

What books would you recommend for personal growth and recovery to aid readers in their journeys?

The books I recommend for personal growth and recovery… Well, outside of my Chaos: In the Shadows and Chaos: Road to Recovery… The only book I would recommend is the Holy Bible because I have actually never read any self-help books. I do read books and a lot of articles because I love to gain knowledge on many different topics. My personal favorite authors just so happen to be Stephen King and Mick Foley. None of their books gave me the self-help vibe, but their books were very entertaining to me and well-written. The information I can share is that I took some classes that were very instrumental in my recovery journey: Anger Management, Advocacy for Positive Outcome, Wellness and Empowerment for Living, and Medication for Success.
