My fantasy novel is pretty atypical when it comes to overall format and style. It offers a fresh and distinctive approach with bringing a lot of current views of our world into an alternate one. The character development is unique in the sense that you end up wanting to her friend.
World-building is a crucial aspect of fantasy literature. How did you go about creating the Other World in your book, and what were the challenges and joys of constructing this new realm? Lots of flipping back to previous chapters and making sure the vernacular stays in line with the imaginative!
The book is described as an “Action & Adventure” novel. What are some of the most exciting action sequences or adventures that readers can look forward to in the story? Her quest for the dead King’s Ultimate Sword.
What inspired the title of the book, and how does it reflect the core essence of the story? I wanted something that shortly but definitively described Elizabeth’s entire story.
Young Adult readers often connect with the characters and find personal resonance in the themes. Did you have your target audience in mind while writing, and if so, how did that influence your storytelling? Young adults who have racing minds, thoughts and want to feel comforted in the fact they are not alone.
Elizabeth is the protagonist of your book. Could you tell us a little more about her character, her strengths, and her journey in this fantastical world? Elizabeth stands out in relatability. Amidst a fantastical world that she stumbles into, she remains grounded and approachable, making it easy for readers to connect with her. She has a knack for articulating the very thoughts and reactions the reader might have in extraordinary situations. Her candid remarks serve as a bridge between the unfamiliarity of the alternate realm and the familiarity of Earth.

However, a series of strange and mystical events lead her into the depths of the woods where she encounters a dwarf who serves as her guide into an alternate realm. While what seems to be a completely different world on the surface, turns out to be familiar on a fundamental level. She ultimately finds herself at the center of a world-saving mission, confronting the struggles that she brought with her. Follow her as she transforms from a hesitant wanderer into a courageous hero.
Can you share any interesting anecdotes or challenges you faced during the writing process of “Elizabeth’s Journey to the Other World”? Some doubt about how some decisions she made, but overall, I made the right ones for Elizabeth’s development.
How has your own background or personal experiences influenced the creation of this story and the characters within it? I am very imaginative and have been since a young age. I made sure to enter that same little girl I once was and let her do a lot of the writing.
In the realm of Young Adult fiction, there’s often a focus on character growth and development. How do the characters in your book evolve throughout the story? Elizabeth must confront her anxieties in order to save the day. And the world.
Are there any particular scenes or moments in the book that were especially enjoyable or meaningful for you to write? I loved writing the ending.
What do you believe is the biggest takeaway or emotion you want readers to experience after finishing “Elizabeth’s Journey to the Other World”?
