Trevor J. Houser’s first novel Pacific was released in 2021 and was the finalist for multiple awards. He’s published stories in dozens of literary journals, and four of his stories were nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Also experienced in working the international motel industry and private investigation, he works in advertising and lives with his family in Seattle now. His idea for The Prumont Method, published in August of 2023, was brought to fruition sometime after the Parkland shooting. Noticing that despite this event and countless others nothing quite changes politically, Houser began daydreaming about how shootings may be averted in other ways. Books can be a very powerful medium to deliver a message.
The Prumont Method is a dark-humor novel. It is equal parts heartbreaking and humorous, if you enjoy gallows humor. Creative and unique, Houser does an excellent job at keeping the reader engaged while also delivering his message. This book runs the gamut, you’ll find yourself feeling for the main character, getting into the nitty gritty of the prevalent issues of gun violence in our society, and even learning cocktail recipes along the way. Houser’s writing will throw you for a loop in the best way. Not only is this an entertaining and captivating read, but an educational and thought-provoking one as well.
The Prumont Method is a darkly funny story, capturing the wild last gasp of a family in retrograde against the backdrop of gun violence run amok in America.
Staring down the barrel of a crumbling career and imploding marriage, “math hobbyist” Roger Prumont, unwittingly creates a formula that might predict when and where the next mass shooting occurs. He hits the road (where he’s joined by his unimpressed daughter) to test whether the Method could actually save lives. Except what if mass shootings are so ubiquitous now that his predictions are merely dumb luck? And what if he’s risking his own life to find out?
